Seek the Lord – The Sixth Commandment

Seek the Lord

Exodus 20:13

“You shall not murder.”

Let’s face it: we’ve all been guilty of murder at one time or another.  Maybe even right now.  Remember that murder begins in the heart–in our attitudes and feelings–before it comes to light in our words and deeds.  Seek the Lord in an extended season of searching your soul to see if murder has deposited any of its seeds in your heart or mind.  Ask the Spirit to cleanse you, and to show you how to overcome the evil of murder with the holiness and righteousness and goodness taught and implied in the sixth commandment.

Thank the Lord for forgiving you, a murderer.  We’ve all been guilty of hate and resentment.  We’ve withheld grace from others, talked about them behind their backs, spoken harshly without warrant, and done many other murderous things against God’s image-bearers.

But the Lord can forgive and cleanse us, and show us how to overcome the evil of murder with the goodness of His Law.

Is there someone you’ve been harboring a grudge against who needs a word of proactive love from you this week?
