WASHINGTON, D.C. – Facing major financial hurdles which could not be overcome, Dr. David Moshier made the hard decision in July 2009 to close his itinerant outreach and withdraw from an active ministry.  Now, in an exclusive to The Christian Observer, Dr. Moshier lays out future plans which center on the preparation of an archive and launching publication of several titles.

Well known in Presbyterian and Reformed circles, Dr. Moshier served ten years as Stated Clerk of The Reformed Presbyterian Church (Hanover Presbytery) and was several times elected Moderator.  A close friend and confidante of the late Dr. Edwin P. Elliott, Jr., Dr. Moshier was a staff editor of the Observer and frequently preached in Dr. Elliott’s pulpit at The Reformed Presbyterian Church in Manassas, Virginia.

Since closing his active ministry, Dr. Moshier has directed most of his time and energies to his position as Superintendent of the United States Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home National Cemetery in Washington.  Although having lost a significant amount of weight, he has been contending with multiple medical issues related to arthritis which leave him now walking with the assistance of a cane.

Dr. Moshier has accepted occasional preaching engagements and requests from local funeral homes for service.

Dr. Moshier told the Observer that his future plans center on continuing public service which he describes as a ministry in its own right.  For the past fifteen months, he has been going over his personal papers and looking through accumulated ephemera.  He has identified several items for publication while also beginning to catalog materials for potential donation to an institution.

Having completed earlier this month editing the memoir of his “honorary brother”, Dr. Michael Layne, Dr. Moshier is now anticipating preparation of two of his own titles previously published for re-issue.  He is also “in a race against time’s effects on paper” to transcribe over three hundred sermon outlines which had belonged to his father.  These outlines will be published in one or more volumes as will other writings of his father and his mother.

A collection of Dr. Moshier’s writings and sermons will be published under the title, “Faithfully Yours”, the title derived from his signature close to his correspondence.

At least two other works are under consideration for publishing.

Dr. Moshier’s files and other ephemera are being catalogued and applications from appropriate institutions to serve as final repositories of the material are invited for consideration.

“It would be my hope,” Dr. Moshier shares, “that the material will find a home where it could be an inspiration and research source especially to those who are in or preparing for ministry in the so-called ‘micro-denominations’ and independent movements which were of such an interest and concern to Edwin [Dr. Edwin P. Elliott, Jr.] and to me.”
