A Kingdom Catechism

Every temptation to covet can spur us to grow in the Lord.

Q 133: How do the redeemed of the Lord find all their sufficiency from the Lord?

A 133: The redeemed of the Lord find all their sufficiency from the Lord by seeking Him early and earnestly, by walking in all His ways, and by looking to Him only to meet their every need. (Ps. 63:1; Ps. 105:4; Deut. 10:12, 13; Phil. 4:19; Jas. 1:17)

Every temptation to covet should be a reminder to press on in knowing the Lord, for we will have no strength to resist the allure of things apart from a deepening relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Thus we may even thank God for allowing the temptation to covet, since it can spur us on in seeking the Lord and following in His ways. The temptation to covet, while it counsels rebellion against the Lord, can actually help us to grow closer to Him, as we look past covetousness to God, the Giver every good and perfect gift, Who supplies all our needs through His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
