All of Is Life Spiritual

The Worldview of God’s Law: Spiritual Practice (1)

The Law of God speaks to every area of human life.

“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways….” Deuteronomy 10:12

The Law of God presents a worldview, a way of understanding our lives in the world and living them according to the eternal plan of God. The worldview communicated in the Law of God is the seed kernel of the entire Biblical worldview. That worldview is grounded in spiritual realties, chief among these, God and His promises. These are for the blessing and boon of all who enter into a covenant relationship with God, and who seek Him and His promises as the orienting points and driving force of their lives.

The people of God engage and enjoy the spiritual vision which the Law presents by practicing various spiritual disciplines. By these they train themselves, soul and body, to know the Lord and to gain the blessings of His Covenant.

As God’s people engage Him and His promises their lives take on a particular cast. The Law of God is meant for living. The worldview presented in God’s Law prescribes a particular manner of living, a way of life characterized by love for God and love for neighbors. God’s Law speaks to every aspect of human life, and He calls those who know Him and seek Him to bring their lives to fruition in spiritual practices affecting all their relationships, roles, and responsibilities.

All of life is spiritual in the worldview of God’s Law, because all of life is lived before God. And when we live before God according to His Word, then we know the promise of life which the worldview of God’s Law holds out for us.
