Bear His Name Gloriously

Exodus 20:7

“You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.”

God alone is God; He alone is worthy of our worship.  As we worship Him and draw closer to Him, He transforms us into the image of His Son, Whose Name–Christian–we bear before the watching world.  Let us bear that Name with joy and honor, serving others in such a way that they will not be able to deny this power at work within us making all things new, and turning the world upside-down.

God is determined to get glory through His people as they bear His Name even in the most mundane of everyday activities (Hab. 2:14; 1 Cor. 10:31). The challenge to us to prepare each day so that we may serve others like Jesus did, humbling ourselves and reaching out to them at the point of their need, to do what we can to touch them with the grace of the Lord (John 13:1-15; Phil. 2:5-11).

We are not our own; if the Name of Jesus is upon us, then the life of Jesus must show through us. Otherwise, we are bearing His Name to no purpose, with no effects–in vain.

In what ways are you beginning to bear the Name of Jesus with greater conscientiousness and effects?

Lord, today as I go forth in Your Name…
