Law Matters: The Law and the King (7)

All our focus and devotion must be on God’s anointed King and His Kingdom.

Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. Psalm 2:12

The King promised in God’s Law has come, and He has brought near and established the Kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Spirit that His Law foresaw and promised. By His death, resurrection, and ascension to the Father’s right hand, Jesus has fulfilled the Law and now sits enthroned as its teacher and end. By His Spirit, poured out into His Church, Jesus is advancing His Kingdom and making all things new toward the day of the final coming of His eternal reign in glory.

He calls His citizens to pray for the coming of His Kingdom and to seek it earnestly (Matt. 6:10, 33). He encourages us to seek greatness in His Kingdom by keeping and teaching His Law (Matt. 5:17-19). He has sent His Spirit to instruct and empower us (Ezek. 36:26, 27; Phil. 2:13), and He calls us to fulfill the commandments of His love, and thus to prove that we are His disciples (John 13:1-15, 34, 35).

The Kingdom comes with the hope of glory (Rom. 5:1, 2), and we who have that hope must be very bold to engage the glory of the risen Christ so that we may be transformed into His image and fulfill our callings in His Kingdom (2 Cor. 3:7-18).

If we love Jesus, we will love His Law. If we would know Jesus and embrace Him day by day, we must walk within His Law, resting on His Spirit to transform us beyond the Law into the very image of Jesus Himself.

For the Christian to live is Christ; He is the upward prize of our high calling in God. And His Law is indispensable to knowing, loving, serving, and enjoying our King and His Kingdom forever.
