Guarding Our Words and Ways

A Kingdom Catechism

Believers are to be salt, light, and leaven in the world.

Q 123: How do the redeemed of the Lord guard their words and ways with their neighbors?

A 123: The redeemed of the Lord guard their words and ways with their neighbors by eschewing all dishonesty, deceit, and lying, fulfilling all lawful agreements, and refusing to be a party in spreading lies. (Deut. 25:13-16; Lev. 6:1-5; Lev. 19:11; Exod. 23:1)

The world is filled with lies and half-truths these days (Ps. 12). But just because everyone else uses their words frivolously, carelessly, or duplicitously does not mean that Christians should. As the salt, light, and leaven of the world, Christians must stand for truth by their lives and words in every situation, shining the light of God’s Word into every nook and cranny of the darkness of unbelief. We must give our lives, conversations, interests, avocations, and loves entirely to knowing, living, and speaking the truth. Anything less than this compromises our calling to follow Him Who declared Himself to be Truth (John 14:6).
