Hold His Feet to Holy Fire

Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 5:16

“Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”

Acts 26:27

“King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe.”

Insist on Consistency

After Festus’ interruption, Paul must have felt that his argument in defense of his ministry was in jeopardy. He turned his remarks directly to the king and, appealing to what he knew about the king’s own beliefs, pleaded his innocence. The king knew and believed the prophets, Paul understood, and he was doing nothing more than what those prophets had foretold. Paul thus called upon King Agrippa to decide his case in a manner consistent with his own beliefs. We ought to do the same in honoring our President. He is on record before the entire nation as being a believer in Jesus Christ. He believes the teaching of Scripture concerning the redemptive work of Christ and has claimed that salvation for himself. Here is a basis for appealing to the President for a national agenda consistent with the interests of Christ, his King and ours. As often as possible, and by every available means, Mr. Obama needs to hear the voice of believers asking him, “Mr. President, do you believe the Gospel? I know you believe. Act in a manner consistent with the King Who saved you.” This is to do nothing more or less than to call on the President to live out the demands of his confession – or to declare his independence of Christ. He is not likely to do that, for good reasons; thus, we have an opportunity to encourage and enable the President to seek the Lord – his Lord and ours – for all his actions and decisions.

What means might you have for addressing this question to the President? How about to any other public officials you know to be believers?
