One Day – The Fourth Commandment

One Day

This is the day the Lord has made; let us submit to His purpose for it.

Read Exodus 20:8

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”

Review each of the meditations from the past week. God has appointed this day as one of holy convocation and rest in Him. We can choose to submit to His purpose for the Lord’s Day, or we can disobey Him and do with it whatever we prefer. But we cannot expect to gain the benefit God intends for us from keeping this day holy if we, instead, treat it as a “free” day to whatever we please. Test God on this, and see if He won’t bless you in surprising ways.

Pray

Lord, keeping the Sabbath is not something I’ve been good at over the years. Help me to believe that You know best how I ought to live, and what I need in order to know the full and abundant life for which You have redeemed me. Help me to trust in You and to take Your Law to heart. Help me to love Your Law and to devote myself to resting on this holy day, so that I might draw closer to You through obedient faith, and in the rest which You have provided for me on this holy day.
