Remember Your Creator

Remember the One Who made you.

Read Exodus 20:8

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”

Two foci are provided for the rest we are to take on the Lord’s Day. The first relates to God’s work as our Creator: “For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them…” (v. 11). The Lord’s Day provides an excellent opportunity for contemplating the glory God is revealing to us through His creation (Ps. 19.1-4). God is our Creator; the Lord Jesus upholds the world and everything in it by the Word of His power. Set aside time on the Lord’s Day to meditate on the creatures God has made, seeking evidence of His goodness, beauty, and truth. If you do, you will train your eyes and ears to see the glory of the Lord all around you on the other days of the week as well, so that you will know with greater intimacy the promise of the Lord’s presence with us always.

Begin searching out an object of the creation for an extended period of meditation this Lord’s Day. A tree? A garden? The song birds that flit through your yard? The clouds in the sky? The glory of God is waiting there to delight and fill you with rest.
