The Basis for the Eighth Commandment

A Kingdom Catechism

We must not presume to “correct” God.

Q 110: What is the basis for the eighth commandment?

A 110: The basis for the eighth commandment is that the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, and men are called to be stewards unto the Lord over all that has been entrusted to them. (Ps. 24:1; Matt. 25:14-30)

God is sovereign in the distribution of His property. No one should presume to “correct” God or to impede his neighbor’s practice of stewardship by usurping his property in any unlawful way. To do so is to violate love for God and neighbor and to put oneself in the place of God as Lord of property.
