The Basis for the Seventh Commandment

A Kingdom Catechism

Marriage is the proper context for sexual relationships.

Q 101: What is the basis for the seventh commandment?

A 101: The basis for the seventh commandment is that the marriage relationship alone is the proper context for human sexual relations. (Gen. 2:24, 25; Heb. 13:4)

The seventh commandment outlines various unlawful sexual activities. These are unlawful because they compromise the marriage relationship as God has designed it. As we have seen, marriage between a man and a woman is the foundational institution for human society, for the benefit of all people and the honor and glory of God. All sexual activity which compromises, bypasses, or undermines the marital relationship is forbidden by God, for His glory and for the benefit of men and society.
