The Sanction of the Ninth Commandment

A Kingdom Catechism

Failures of truth-keeping bring judgment from God.

Q 126: What sanction does the Lord threaten in the ninth commandment?

A 126: The Lord threatens that those who disobey the ninth commandment shall bring uncleanness and impurity on their community and thus become an abomination in the sight of the Lord. (Lev. 18:24-30; Deut. 25:13-16)

Nothing ruins the world and human life faster or more completely than violations and compromises of the truth. We are made for truth, the world is designed for truth, and the God of Truth watches over all the doings of men and the cosmos. Where truth is ignored, denied, violated, or otherwise set aside, corruption, uncleanness, impurity, and judgment will emerge and grow, making human life a stench in the nostrils of God, and incurring His wrath and indignation with progressive intensity (Rom. 1:18-32).
