Salvation, Law, and Love

A Kingdom Catechism

We cannot work out our salvation apart from the Law of God.

Q 35: How does the Law relate to the salvation of the Lord?

A 35:   Through obedience to the Law believers work out their salvation, and all its benefits, by walking in love as Jesus walked (Phil. 2:12, 13; 1 John 2:1-6; 1 John 5:1-3)

The end of the commandments is love for God and neighbor (Matt. 22:34-40). The goal of all instruction in the Christian faith is this love (1 Tim. 1:5). Such love is the defining attribute of the follower of Jesus Christ (John 13:35). Believers are to devote themselves to, to be zealous for, and not to grow weary of doing those good works of love for which they have been redeemed (Tit. 2:14; 3:8; Gal. 6:9, 10; Eph. 3:8-10). This is the path that Jesus walked and along which the Holy Spirit leads all who are His true followers.
