Increasing in Jesus

A Kingdom Catechism

The Spirit transforms and sanctifies us to be like Jesus.

Q 42: How does it become apparent that the Spirit is teaching us the Law of God?

A 42: It becomes apparent that we are learning from God’s Spirit as we lay aside old ways of living, and, by the work of God’s Spirit, evidence the fruit, gifts, holiness, and power for witness that the Spirit is working to bring forth in us. (Eph. 4:17-24; Gal. 5:22, 23; 1 Cor. 12:7-11; 2 Cor. 7:1; Acts 1:8)

The Spirit gives us new life in Jesus according to the Law and Word of God (John 6:63). That new life is sufficiently well outlined and described in the Word of God that we should have no difficulty envisioning what it requires or how it might appear as it begins to come to fruition in and through us. Essentially, we are being transformed into the image of Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 3:12-18). Thus, the better we know Him and the path He walked, the easier—and more absolutely joyous—it will be to discern His sanctifying work in our lives in all the ways mentioned in the answer to this question.
