Loving Our Neighbor
A Kingdom Catechism
The last six commandments outline our duty in loving our neighbor.
Q 45: Which parts of the Law of God teach us to love our neighbors?
A 45: While all the Law teaches love for our neighbors, the last six commandments, together with their precepts, statutes, and rules, most especially teach us how we must love them. (Exod. 20:12-17; Deut. 5:16-21)
The love we nurture on the vertical plane, in our relationship with God, comes to expression on the horizontal plane, in the ways we love our neighbors. Commandments 5-10 direct us in the ways we must show God’s love for our neighbors. The statutes, precepts, and rules which accompany these commandments are intended to further illustrate or demonstrate the requirements of neighbor love in specific situations.
