Fulfilling Our Vows

A Kingdom Catechism

We must take our vows seriously, to perform them fully.

Q 70: How do the redeemed of the Lord fulfill all their vows?

A 70: The redeemed of the Lord fulfill their vows by vowing only what they intend to fulfill and exercising diligence in carrying out all that they have sworn. (Eccl. 5:1-7; Matt. 5:33-37)

Vows are solemn declarations made to the Lord, expressing, in response to some singular gesture of divine love, our resolve to perform certain obligations. Vows bind us to future actions under certain conditions, and we must take great care lest we fail to represent the Lord and our commitment to Him by not fulfilling our vows as we should. We must make sure we understand and mean every vow we take, and that we recall those vows faithfully, so that we may fulfill them each day of our lives.
