The Fifth Commandment
A Kingdom Catechism
Here is the groundwork for all loving human relationships.
Q 82: What is the fifth commandment?
A 82: The fifth commandment is, “Honor your father and your mother.” (Exod. 20:12; Deut. 5:16)
The focus of the fifth commandment is on children and their attitudes toward their parents. However, this focus is designed to lay a cornerstone for all human relationships. What children learn about relating to their parents should transfer into all other relationships as well. By honoring their fathers and mothers children learn to show respect, deference, and love for others, and thus their hearts are set to fulfill all the requirements of the Law for loving God and neighbors.
