Cling to the Lord!

The third commandment

Exodus 20.4, 7; Deuteronomy 5.11

“You shall not take the Name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His Name in vain.”

Song 3.4

I found him who my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her who conceived me.

Cling to Jesus in every aspect of your life.

The bride of Solomon wanted nothing more than to have her beloved become part of every aspect of her life. The idea of taking him to her mother’s home is like trying to bring him back into all the early days of her life, when she didn’t know him, so that he can possess and enjoy her to the fullest. Is this what we want of Jesus? Do we long for Him to occupy every facet, every nook and cranny of our lives? To raise up His banners of grace and truth in our homes, marriages, neighborhoods, work, communities, avocations, and all the rest? To cling to Jesus is to have Him with us wherever we go, and to have His light, His presence illuminating all the space and people in our lives. When we cling to Jesus this way, people will notice and things will begin to change, reflecting the eternal truths of God’s Word and sending the darkness of unbelief and sin heading for the high ground. They who take the Name of the Lord cling to Him with such tenacity that He is present in all their activities, all day long.
