Guarding Against Lust

A Kingdom Catechism

Sexual sin begins in the heart.

Q 104: How do the redeemed of the Lord guard against all lust and voyeurism?

A 104: The redeemed of the Lord guard against all lust and voyeurism by refusing to look on the nakedness of others, or any unclean things, and concentrating their thoughts only on what is honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise, especially the beauty of the Lord. (Ps. 101:2, 3; Phil. 4:8; Ps. 27:4)

In a day such as ours, where pornography and sexual explicitness and suggestiveness are available on every hand, it can come to seem the norm that indulging such enticements cannot be hurtful. The Law of God teaches otherwise. God calls His people to exercise all vigilance against illicit sexual desires and activities, and though all the world go the way of the flesh, yet the people of God must stand firm in God’s Law, knowing this to be His holy and righteous and good plan for all people. The more God’s people follow the instruction of the Apostle Paul (Phil. 4:8), the more they will prefer to view and think about things truly beautiful and excellent and to guard their affections against being drawn away to unlawful indulgences.
