March 1, 1457 the Unity of the Brethren began. Better known as Moravians, the original Protestant Church was a product of John Huss a follower of John Wycliffe, born in Southern Bohemia in 1369. The Council of Constance excommunicated Huss in 1411 and burned Huss at the stake on July 6, 1415, with Wycliffe’s manuscript Bibles used as kindling for the fire.
The last words of John Huss were “In 100 years, God will raise up a man whose calls for reform cannot be suppressed.” Almost exactly 100 years later, in 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses of Contention (a list of heretical doctrines and crimes of the Roman Church) into the church door at Wittenberg. The prophecy of Huss had come true!
Shortly before His own trial and murder, Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:1-3)
