No Idols of Any Kind
The Law of God for Daily Meditation
Morning Meditation
Exodus 20:23
“You shall not make anything to be with me—gods of silver or gods of gold you shall not make for yourselves.”
Exodus 34:17
“You shall make no molded gods for yourselves.”
Leviticus 19:4
“Do not turn to idols, nor make for yourselves molded gods: I am the LORD your God.”
Leviticus 26:1
“You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God.”
Today I will likely have to do with people who worship the idols of this secular and materialistic world. What idols do they serve? How can I guard myself against the temptation of those idols? What can I do to point these people to the one true God?
Evening Meditation
Leviticus 18:21
“And you shall not let any of your descendants pass through the fire to Molech, nor shall you profane the name of your God: I am the LORD.”
Leviticus 20:1-5
1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Again, you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘Whoever of the children of Israel, or of the strangers who dwell in Israel, who gives any of his descendants to Molech, he shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones. 3 I will set My face against that man, and will cut him off from his people, because he has given some of his descendants to Molech, to defile My sanctuary and profane My holy name. 4 And if the people of the land should in any way hide their eyes from the man, when he gives some of his descendants to Molech, and they do not kill him, 5 then I will set My face against that man and against his family; and I will cut him off from his people, and all who prostitute themselves with him to commit harlotry with Molech.’”
Deuteronomy 18:9-13
9 “When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you. 13 You shall be blameless before the LORD your God.”
Leviticus 19:26-28
26 “You shall not eat anything with the blood, nor shall you practice divination or soothsaying. 27 You shall not shave around the sides of your head, nor shall you disfigure the edges of your beard. 28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD.”
As I think back over the day, have allowed any of the practices or thinking of this unbelieving age shape my outlook or life? Do I need to confess and repent of any sin before the Lord?
