The Law of God outlines the path of love.

Q 43: What does the Law of God principally teach?

A 43: The Law of God principally teaches men how they must love God and love their neighbors. (Matt. 22:34-30; 1 John 5:1-3)

Jesus said that all the Law and the Prophets “depend” on the two great commandments. We should understand Him as teaching that the meaning and application of the Law, in all aspects, must not be to any other end. However we seek to live out the teaching of God’s Law, it must be for the purpose of loving God and our neighbors. This is perfect love, and perfect love casts out all fear of being clapped in a disagreeable yoke of legal constraint. Not all will see the Law as guiding us in the way of love for God and neighbor, because they do not agree with the definition and terms of love as God explains them. But true love, love which expresses the relationship between the members of the Godhead and their relationship to the world of their creating, follows the course outlined in the Law of God. Learn the Law and we learn the ways of love, as the Apostle John observed.
