The Sixth Commandment
A Kingdom Catechism
The sixth commandment forbids unlawfully taking the life of another.
Q 91: What is the sixth commandment?
A 91: The sixth commandment is, “You shall not murder.” (Exod. 20:13; Deut. 5:17)
The sixth commandment expresses the logical extreme of the fifth commandment. Those who honor, respect, and love their neighbors seek only their well-being and edification. On the other hand, unlawfully taking the life of another is the exact antithesis of what the divine economy promotes and encroaches on the prerogatives of God Himself, Who alone has the authority to give and take life, as He sees fit, and in His way and time (Job 1:21).
