Every Yod and Horn

Matthew 5:17-19

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

How much of the Law of God remains valid for life in the Kingdom? Every yod and “horn” of it.

The yod is the smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet. The “horn” indicates a little serif foot which is essential to distinguish certain Hebrew letters from one another. Though these are but small players in the Hebrew alphabet, leaving them out would create confusion and uncertainty.

In the same way, leaving out any of the commandments of God from our daily lives will lead us off the path of righteousness that leads to Kingdom greatness. We can’t pick and choose among the commandments of God. Every yod and horn is there to guide us in the way of love.

Have you begun to practice daily meditation in the Law of God? Do you think you’ll be able to become great in the Kingdom without doing so?

Lord, I want to know and love Your Law! Help me to…

Daily meditation in the Law of God helps us along the path of holiness, righteousness, and goodness (Rom. 7:12).
