We Must Grow Through Temptation…

A Kingdom Catechism

…rather than fall through into sin.

Q 130: How do the redeemed of the Lord fulfill the tenth commandment?

A 130: The redeemed of the Lord fulfill the tenth commandment by guarding against all covetousness, by being content in all things, and by finding all their sufficiency from the Lord. (Luke 12:15; 1 Tim. 6:6-8; Ps. 16:1, 2; Ps. 73:25)

The great temptation which comes with covetousness is in thinking that some created thing, not now in our possession, will bring us a measure of happiness we cannot otherwise know. This is why covetousness is a form of idolatry. It looks to created things to provide what we should look for from the Lord only. We must learn to look through every temptation to covet to the Lord of glory, lifting our eyes with gratitude to Him for His many excellent gifts, and waiting on Him in prayer for the peace and joy that come from knowing Him. Thus we may grow through every temptation to covet rather than fall through them into sin.
